Dr. Robert O. (Bill) Williams III, professor of pharmaceutics in The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, has been elected to the college of fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
Williams was selected for his contributions to medical and biological engineering, in particular for his “pioneering” studies of novel methods of microparticle formulations for drug delivery.
AIMBE, based in Washington, D.C., was founded in 1991 to establish a clear and comprehensive identity for the field of medical and biological engineering—which is the bridge between the principles of engineering science and practice, and the problems and issues of biological and medical science and practice.
The college of fellows is made up of 1,100 individuals in academia, industry and government—with no more than 15 of them being from the pharmaceutical sciences.
Williams holds the Johnson & Johnson Centennial Professorship in pharmaceutics and is director of the College of Pharmacy’s Division of Pharmaceutics. His expertise involves the design of novel nanoparticle and microparticle drug compositions with enhanced bioavailability—and their use in treating diseases.
