Second-year Department of Advertising Ph.D. student Sonny Rosenthal has been accepted as a National Science Foundation IGERT (Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship) fellow in Indoor Environmental Science and Engineering. Rosenthal, the first communication scholar to be accepted into the prestigious program, exhibited the potential to bring to environmental sciences a much-needed focus on how to communicate science to the public. As a result of this traineeship, Rosenthal’s program of study will now draw from environmental engineering courses as well as advertising and mass communication. Some of the topics Rosenthal will explore through the program include pollutants/contaminants found inside homes/schools/public places and how related information/risks/policies are best communicated with various audiences.
