EVENT: Naomi Wolf, leading feminist scholar and bestselling author of “The Beauty Myth,” will be the keynote speaker at the “Defining Beauty” symposium, sponsored by the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies at The University of Texas at Austin, the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership and Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty. Wolf will discuss “Beauty and Self-Esteem in Society: Freeing Ourselves and the Next Generation.”

BACKGROUND: Following the 11 a.m. panel featuring Wolf, the symposium will include professional development seminars from 2 to 5 p.m. on topics such as ethical leadership, financial literacy, negotiation and writing for change. Wolf is the author of the international bestseller, “The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women” (1991). The book challenged the marketing of unrealistic standards of beauty by the cosmetics industry. Wolf is co-founder of the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership, an organization devoted to training young women about ethical leadership for the 21st century. Register for this free event.
