In the third annual BusinessWeek magazine survey of top undergraduate business programs, released last Thursday (Feb. 28), the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin ranked #10 overall nationally (up from #13 in 2007).
The ranking places the school’s program #3 among public schools and #1 among public schools with four-year programs.
According to the survey publishers, one factor in McCombs’ rise this year is a strong showing (#2) among recruiters who responded to the survey, noting that the school’s recruiting “wins raves.”
The Bachelor of Business Administration program rose two spots, from #18 to #16 in the “feeder school” ranking, which is a measure of which undergraduate programs send the most graduates to 35 top Master of Business Administration programs as identified in previous BusinessWeek rankings.
Dr. Paula Murray, associate dean for undergraduate programs at McCombs, said it is particularly significant that a four-year public school compares so favorably among both public and private schools with far fewer students.
“McCombs has the sixth largest enrollment of all 96 schools in the survey, with 3,969 students,” she said. “Our peer-ranked public schools are extraordinarily smaller, such as the University of Virginia with 652 students, and Berkeley with 700. I’m pleased with our ability to balance such a broad portfolio of academic offerings, while still running a rigorous and respected program.”
