Two journalism students have earned the annual Roy W. Howard National Collegiate Reporting Competition sponsored by the Scripps Howard Foundation. Juniors Natalia Ciolko and Hudson Lockett will travel to Japan and South Korea in June on a 13-day journalism trip with seven other winners from universities across the country. The winners, whose entries collectively represent print and broadcast journalism, new media and multimedia studies, were chosen for the quality of their published and/or broadcast work and an essay about their interest in international affairs. Ciolko is editor-in-chief of “DT Weekend,” an entertainment supplement of The Daily Texan. She also is writer, designer and editor of Smear Campaign, a humor and entertainment publication she co-founded in 2006. Lockett, who is also studying Asian Cultures and Languages, is a gaming correspondent and feature writer for The Daily Texan. He also is a contributor to the Austin American-Statesman’s online entertainment and outdoor recreation sites and the video game news blog SegaNerds.com.
