Mia Markey, biomedical engineering assistant professor, has been selected to receive a 2008 Alumni Distinguished Leadership Award from the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy for her distinguished achievements and leadership contributions in her professional field. As director of the Biomedical Informatics Lab at the university, Markey uses signal processing and artificial intelligence techniques to design clinical decision support systems to help healthcare providers better diagnose, treat and manage diseases.
