The winners of the Ninth Annual University Co-op George H. Mitchell Awards for Academic Excellence were announced at Austin’s Four Seasons Hotel on April 20. These awards celebrate and reward undergraduate students who have demonstrated unparalleled dedication and achievement in their fields of study. The $20,000 Grand Prize winner of the Undergraduate Student Awards for Academic Excellence was Baltej Ludher, chemical engineering senior, who was nominated by Professor Keith P. Johnston for his research paper “Novel Methods for Producing Micron and Sub-micron Pharmaceutical Particles for Pulmonary and Oral Delivery.” Ludher’s research has the potential to radically advance drug delivery, as well as disease diagnosis and treatment. Three other undergraduate students, Christian Casey, Sarah Miller and Tara Buentello, won the second prize and received $5,000 each. The five winners of the $2,000 awards were: Austin Wright, Amelia Fischer, Ishan Chakrabarti, Michael Allred and Mark Aguhar.
