The 125th anniversary of the opening of The University of Texas at Austin in 1883 will be celebrated in mid-September with commemorative activities, including a traditional President’s State of the University Address, a report on ongoing and new initiatives of the university’s administration.
President William Powers Jr. will present his third President’s State of the University Address at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17 in the B. Iden Payne Theatre of the F. Loren Winship Drama Building near the bus turn-around and the corner of San Jacinto and 23rd streets. The program is open to the public.
The president’s report also will be broadcast live Sept. 17 on the Web and on campus cable channels 25 and 45. The live streaming for the program will begin at 3:55 p.m. RealPlayer (free download) is needed to view the live webcast. The webcast will be available online.

Powers is the 28th president of The University of Texas at Austin. Before taking office on Feb. 1, 2006, he was dean of the university’s School of Law, where he won recognition for recruiting a world-class faculty and attracting highly diverse and talented students. He delivered his inaugural address on the state of the university on Sept. 19, 2006.
