The University of Texas at Austin has received $190,000 from the Exxon Mobil Corporation to support the McCombs School of Business, Cockrell School of Engineering, Jackson School of Geosciences, School of Law, College of Natural Sciences and LBJ School of Public Affairs. Including this gift, ExxonMobil has contributed more than $39 million in total philanthropic support, making it the university’s most generous corporate partner.
The unrestricted grant allows selected academic departments to allocate the money for various educational purposes including scholarships, field trips, visiting speakers, equipment purchases, student and faculty travel to academic-related activities, and other educational projects.
ExxonMobil has contributed $2 million in departmental grants this year to 85 colleges and universities throughout the country to support various academic programs. The grants are awarded to schools that offer degrees in subjects from which the company recruits employees. The amount of the grant is based on several factors, including the number of employees graduated from the specific university.

The departmental grants program represents only a portion of ExxonMobil’s overall support of education. In 2007, ExxonMobil Foundation, Exxon Mobil Corporation and its divisions and affiliates provided $70 million in contributions to education initiatives worldwide.
