Four advertising students at The University of Texas at Austin have been named 2009 Most Promising Minority Students by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).

Christina Amy Chan, Jocelyn Shiuan Lai, Cecilia Wong and Linda Yang are among 40 undergraduate students from across the country selected based on their academic standing, interest in the advertising industry, leadership potential and a short essay on creating a more inclusive advertising industry.

Two additional advertising students, Brooke DeAnn Ingram and Justin Chiwo Lam, were named to the AAF Minority Honor Roll. All six students were nominated by John Murphy, the Joe C. Thompson Centennial Professor of Advertising and Distinguished University Teaching Professor.

AAF’s Most Promising Minority Students Program recognizes the nation’s top minority college seniors in the areas of advertising, communications, marketing and media, and helps place them in jobs in the advertising industry, which is striving to recruit fresh talent that will better reflect today’s multicultural society.

AAF will bring all four Most Promising Minority Students to New York City Feb. 3-5 for a series of networking, training and recruiting events. Students also will be featured in advertising industry publications and on a resume CD sent to leaders in the advertising industry.

This is the third consecutive year that University of Texas at Austin advertising students were selected to participate in the program; two were selected in 2008 and one was selected in 2007.
