Juan Ontiveros, executive director of the Utilities and Energy Management Department, has been appointed to a National Research Council (NRC) committee, which is part of the National Academy of Sciences. As a member of this ad hoc committee, Ontiveros will advise the Office of the Architect of the U.S. Capitol about how to best meet the future goals of the Capitol Power Plant in Washington, D.C. The plant was built in the early 1900s and heats and cools 25 buildings on Capitol Hill, including the Library of Congress, the House and Senate office buildings, the Supreme Court and the Capitol building.
