Shell Oil Company has contributed $313,500 to support academic programs at The University of Texas at Austin.

The grant benefits undergraduates and graduate students in the university’s McCombs School of Business, Cockrell School of Engineering and Jackson School of Geosciences.

The largest component of the donation is a $125,000 contribution to the GeoFORCE Texas Program, which rewards outstanding low-income students from diverse South Texas and Houston school districts with the chance to travel the country and learn about opportunities for careers in the geosciences.

With this contribution Shell has given the university more than $26 million in gifts and research grants, said David Onion, associate vice president for development at the university.

“We deeply appreciate Shell’s generous support,” Onion said. “Their contributions are making our strong programs in geosciences, engineering and business even stronger. With great partners like Shell, The University of Texas at Austin will continue to lead in these vital fields.”
