Fashion Show Highlights Student Designers at The University of Texas at Austin

Event: “Luminous,” the 2009 Fashion Show and Exposition, presented by the School of Human Ecology‘s Division of Textiles and Apparel. The event is free and open to the public.

When: Friday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. (pre-show exposition) and 8 p.m. (fashion show)

Where: Frank Erwin Center, 1701 Red River St.

Background: University of Texas at Austin textile and apparel seniors will present their designs at the School of Human Ecology’s annual fashion show. Runway models will wear the students’ original garments, including daywear, casual wear, evening gowns and bridal gowns.

Prizes will be awarded for Best Fashion Collection, Most Innovative Fashion Collection, Most Marketable Fashion Collection, Best Constructed Fashion Collection and Best Evening/Bridal Gown. Winners will be determined by a panel of judges made of professionals in the fashion industry.

The pre-show exposition will include work from all aspects of the textiles and apparel program, including computer-aided design, retail merchandising, visual merchandising and historical textiles.

The annual spring fashion show is underwritten by George Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of the University Co-operative Society. Additional support is provided by Pink Hair Salon and Gallery, Sephora Cosmetics, Webber Productions and alumni of the textile and apparel program.
