Event: Screenwriter Andrew Davies discusses the continuing popularity of classic literature in contemporary cinema in a talk hosted by the Plan II Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin.

Background: Robert Faires, Austin Chronicle arts editor, will ask Davies about some controversial liberties he has taken in adapting classic literature for television and film.
Davies has adapted the work of William Shakespeare, E.M. Forster, Charles Dickens and other great writers for the BBC, and has written screenplays for several major motion pictures, including “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” “The Tailor of Panama” and “Brideshead Revisited.”
Creator of the British TV programs “Pride and Prejudice,” “Othello” and “The Way We Live Now,” Davies is best known for his adaptations of the work of writers such as Jane Austen and George Eliot. He has also written numerous original drama series, plays and books.
The talk is a part of the Julius and Suzan Glickman Centennial Lecture series, which hosts one to two special lectures each year.
