JOURNALISM PROFESSOR HONORED FOR DIVERSITY RESEARCH
Paula Poindexter, associate professor and graduate adviser in journalism, is the inaugural recipient of the Lionel C. Barrow Jr. Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education presented by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

TWO STATE PROGRAMS ARE ACCEPTING PROPOSALS
–TEXAS IGNITION FUND–
The Texas Ignition Fund (TIF) has opened its latest round of funding. The TIF is a proof-of-concept grant program designed to stimulate commercialization activities at University of Texas System institutions by providing grants up to $50,000 for the development and maturation of research discoveries into marketable intellectual property.
The deadline to submit proposals to the Office of the Vice President for Research is Sept. 25, 2009. The TIF deadline is Oct. 9, 2009.
–THECB NORMAN HACKERMAN ADVANCED RESEARCH PROGRAM–
The Norman Hackerman Advanced Research Program, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), also is seeking proposals. It has $16.4 million available for grants during the State of Texas 2010-2011 biennium budget cycle.
It is a competitive, peer-reviewed grants program that supports basic research projects of faculty members at Texas public and independent higher education institutions. It is administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The internal OSP deadline is Sept. 3, 2009. The deadline for registration and pre-proposals is Sept. 15, 2009.
