Book on Family Communication, Edited by Professor, Wins Distinguished Book Award

“The Handbook of Family Communication,” edited by Anita Vangelisti, the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Professor in Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, has received the Distinguished Book Award from the Family Communication Division of the National Communication Association (NCA).

“The Handbook of Family Communication,” edited by Anita Vangelisti, the Jesse H. Jones Centennial Professor in Communication at The University of Texas at Austin, has received the Distinguished Book Award from the Family Communication Division of the National Communication Association (NCA).

She will receive the award at the NCA conference in Chicago next month.

“The Handbook of Family Communication” explores and analyzes family interaction. The book offers insight on theories of family relationships and communication across the family life course. Chapters focus on research and methods associated with various theories and connects them to family communication.

Recently elected vice president for the International Association for Relationship Research, Vangelisti is a renowned scholar who studies interpersonal communication in the context of close, personal relationships, such as those in families. Her research examines how communication affects, and is affected by, emotions and cognitive processes.

The NCA awards the distinguished book award to individuals who make a significant contribution to scholarship in family communication theory.
