Chevron has contributed $1,848,600 in 2009 to support academic programs at The University of Texas at Austin.

The amount was recently celebrated at a campus reception with Chevron scholarship recipients.

Chevron’s 2009 gifts bring its total university giving to more than $40 million.

The company has also invested $3,751,833 in research partnerships with university faculty and programs, bringing its total sponsored research investments in the university to about $16.4 million.

Chevron’s 2009 philanthropic support of the university focused on the Jackson School of Geosciences, Cockrell School of Engineering, McCombs School of Business and Texas Advanced Computing Center. The largest component was $1 million to support the continued maintenance of core samples Chevron previously donated to the university’s Bureau of Economic Geology.

Another $120,000 supported GeoFORCE Texas, a program that rewards outstanding low-income students from diverse South Texas and Houston school districts with the chance to travel and learn about opportunities for geosciences careers.
