Event: Two internationally recognized artists and professors at the Butler School of Music of The University of Texas at Austin, Anne Akiko Meyers and Anton Nel, will perform together in Meyers’ first concert since joining the faculty in fall 2009.
When: Sunday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m.
Where: Bates Recital Hall in the Butler School of Music.
Tickets: At the door: $20 public, $17 faculty/staff and seniors, $10 students.

Background: Meyers has planned a diverse and vibrant program. She’ll perform such major works as Beethoven’s Spring Sonata no. 5 for violin and piano, Schnittke’s Suite in the Old Style, Gershwin’s Summertime from “Porgy and Bess” and Autumn in New York by Vernon Duke. Meyers will also give the world premiere of the new work Violin and Electronics by up-and-coming composer Jakub Ciupinski. Nel will join Meyers at the piano.
Meyers is celebrated as one of the world’s premier concert violinists. The renowned soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and educator regularly performs throughout the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe. Nel is a highly decorated international performer and recent recipient of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Endowed Chair in Piano in the Butler School of Music.
