University of Texas at Austin supporters and alumni Suzan and Julius Glickman have donated $100,000 to the College of Education to establish the Suzan Clark Glickman Endowed Fellowship in Learning Disabilities and the Suzan Clark Glickman Endowed Fellowship in Early Childhood Special Education. Each fellowship is receiving $50,000.
Funds from the endowments will be used to support graduate students studying in the Department of Special Education’s Learning Disabilities Program and in Early Childhood Special Education.
“These gifts are going to be put to excellent use,” said Dr. Herb Rieth, Department of Special Education chair. “Thanks to the Glickmans’ support, we’ll be able to offer financial assistance to graduate students who plan to teach students in Early Childhood Special Education and with learning disabilities. There’s such a tremendous need out there right now for highly qualified special education teachers, and that need is only going to grow. We are proud to prepare some of the most skilled special education teachers of any college of education in the nation, and we’re thankful to the Glickmans for helping our students be the best.”
Suzan and Julius Glickman are University of Texas at Austin alumni. Suzan graduated from the College of Education and is a former elementary school teacher and community volunteer, while Julius is a graduate of the School of Law and a prominent Houston attorney. Both are enthusiastic art collectors and patrons of the arts.
Suzan is a long-time member of the College of Education’s Foundation Advisory Council and is now the council chair. Over the years, the Glickmans have created five endowments in the college and have given to the School of Law, Plan II program and the Blanton Museum of Art as well.
“The Glickmans are dear friends of the College of Education,” said Dean Manuel J. Justiz. “They really understand our mission and feel strongly about creating excellent teachers and doing what’s necessary to help students of all backgrounds and ability levels realize their potential. They act on their convictions and are such generous philanthropists. They believe in the transformative power of giving. We deeply appreciate them.”
