The Longhorn Run, 10K and two-mile races that incorporate venues and other aspects of The University of Texas at Austin previously unavailable to runners, will take place on Saturday, May 1, starting in front of the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center.

The two-mile race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 10K race starts at 9 a.m. Both races go through west and north campus, and culminate in the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

“We have been working closely with Nike and RunTex to ensure everyone who participates has a great experience and wants to run again next year,” said Race Director Liam O’Rourke, a senior in Plan I Honors and history. The Longhorn Run Honorary Committee Chair is Kim Heilbrun, wife of University of Texas at Austin President William Powers Jr.

Proceeds from the race will go to the Excellence Fund, a Student Government endowment dedicated to student projects and programs. The purpose of the endowment is to give students the resources to make a difference on campus, in the community and around the world. In 2009, the Excellence Fund committee allocated $5,000 to students.
