Get ready. Get set. Go.

The Longhorn Run will take place Saturday, May 1, and will feature two races, a 10K and a two-mile, that tour spaces and venues across campus previously unavailable to runners. The races will start in front of the ATandT Executive Education and Conference Center.

The two-mile race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 10K race starts at 9 a.m. Both races go through west and north campus, and culminate in the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

“We have been working closely with Nike and RunTex to ensure everyone who participates has a great experience and wants to run again next year,” said Race Director Liam O’Rourke, a senior in Plan I Honors and history. Kim Heilbrun, wife of President William Powers Jr., is the honorary committee chair.

Runners will receive a Nike race shirt, which will serve as their ticket into the post-race celebration.

Proceeds from the race will go to the Excellence Fund, a Student Government endowment dedicated to student projects and programs. The purpose of the endowment is to give students the resources to make a difference on campus, in the community and around the world. In 2009, the Excellence Fund committee allocated $5,000 to students.
