Undergraduates, starting this month, will take an online survey about the student experience at The University of Texas at Austin through the “Share What You Know With Bevo” campaign.
Results will be published in fall 2010 and will help student leaders, administrators, faculty and staff improve the undergraduate experience. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and is available online at: www.utexas.edu/seru.
The survey is called the Student Experience in the Research University, or SERU, and was developed by the University of California at Berkeley Center for Studies in Higher Education to broaden understanding of the undergraduate experience at research universities. Since its inception in 2004, some of the institutions that have administered the SERU include the University of California at Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Florida. This is the first year the SERU will be administered at The University of Texas at Austin.
Students who take the SERU will be eligible for prizes, such as lunch with Longhorn student-athletes and VIP seats to basketball, baseball and softball games. More information can be found on the SERU resources page: www.utexas.edu/seru/resources.html.
“The SERU will help us identify some of the academic challenges that undergraduates encounter and help us create better support programs to help students succeed,” said Harrison Keller, vice provost of The University of Texas at Austin.
Soncia Reagins-Lilly, senior associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students, said, “By taking advantage of this opportunity to give us their perspective in a wide variety of areas, undergraduate students will help improve the quality and intent of the programs and services we provide to them. Today’s students will influence the experiences of future Longhorns.”
