Maymester in Japan explores aesthetics of architecture

School of Architecture Professor David Heymann, with help from colleagues John Blood and Elizabeth Danze, led a Maymester to Japan with 16 students from the School of Architecture and College of Fine Arts. One student, Alexis Kurland, chronicled each day of the trip with photos.

Students explored the complexity and depth of Japanese aesthetic production and the profound influence it has had on Western architects, artists and designers. The Maymester provided young designers firsthand exposure to non-Western design aesthetic.
