Event: Eric Dishman of Intel Corporation will present findings from Intel’s 10-year journey with observational studies in more than 1,000 elderly households across 20 countries that show the potential for new technologies and industries to help prepare for global aging. This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to Faith Singer-Villalobos.

When: 5:45 p.m., Aug. 3.

Where: ATandT Conference Center Amphitheater (Room 204), 1900 University Ave.

Background: While we were paying attention to “old computers” with the Y2K challenge at the end of 1999, another major change was happening: society crossed over to having more older people than younger people for the first time in history. In 2010, the first “baby boomers” become eligible for retirement and Social Security. Dishman proposes that healthcare needs to move from the hospital and clinician to the home and consumer. A wide array of telehealth, e-care and aging-in-place technologies can help us do that.
