New and returning students moving into their residence halls at The University of Texas at Austin for the fall semester will be welcomed and assisted by volunteer students, faculty and staff members during Mooov-In from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, and Saturday, Aug. 21.

Among those welcoming the new arrivals will be William Powers Jr., president of The University of Texas at Austin, who will greet arriving parents and students at Duren Hall at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20.

Mooov-In is a tradition of greeting and helping new and returning students moving into their residence halls the weekend before the start of fall semester classes, which begin on Aug. 25.

John Ramsey, president of the University Residence Hall Association, will be among the 150 members of the university community who volunteered to help with the project, which involves working in shifts helping new students and their parents carry suitcases, boxes and other belongings from vehicles and moving the items into residence halls. About 7,500 residents will be in campus housing during the fall semester and about 63 percent of the beds will be for freshman students.

The Mooov-In tradition, which began in 1993, is sponsored by the Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Division of Housing and Food Service and the University Residence Hall Association.
