Butler School of Music Introduces Informal Music Courses

The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin will introduce this fall Informal Music Classes, an initiative that offers non-credit music courses to members of the Central Texas community.

The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin will introduce this fall Informal Music Classes, an initiative that offers non-credit music courses to members of the Central Texas community.

These courses are designed to meet the needs of musicians with a wide range of skills, from the casual novice, to the experienced performer. The initial course offerings include private and group instruction in piano, guitar, voice and music theory, with plans to expand the offerings in subsequent semesters. Fees for these new classes start as low as $100. Registration for the courses began Aug. 10 and is open to the public. Informal Music Classes to be offered this semester include:

  • Learn to Read Music
  • Class Piano for Beginners
  • Class Guitar for Beginners
  • Class Voice for Beginners
  • Private Instruction: Piano
  • Private Instruction: Guitar
  • Private Instruction: Voice

The Informal Music Classes will be taught by experienced graduate students under the supervision of the Butler School of Music’s internationally renowned faculty. Students enrolled in the courses will have access to the Butler School’s classroom and practice facilities. Classes will be held on weekends and evenings at the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music on The University of Texas at Austin campus. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend select Butler School performances free of charge as part of their program coursework. In keeping with the Butler School’s academic mission, class sizes are limited and spots in the program are expected the fill quickly.
