Event: Current and past members of the Faculty Council‘s Research Policy Committee are hosting The University of Texas at Austin’s first Ethical Research Awareness Day. The goal of the event is to strengthen the ethical research core of the university, call attention to integrity in research and make ethical research standards more visible.
The university’s ethical research standards, unanimously endorsed by the Faculty Council in January, will be introduced during Ethical Research Awareness Day. The standards are available online.
When: 10 a.m.-noon, Sept. 29.
Where: Eastwoods Room (2.201) in the Texas Union.
Background: News reports on scientific misconduct at one of the nation’s most prestigious universities over the past several weeks demonstrate there is no better time than now to focus on University of Texas at Austin ethical research standards. The event features four panel sessions covering: consequences of scientific misconduct, case studies, student perspectives and a QandA with event organizers. Panelists come from colleges and units across campus, including Communication, Education, Engineering, Liberal Arts, the LBJ School, Natural Sciences and the Graduate School.
