An interactive Theater for Dialogue performance Wednesday, Oct. 13, and a Silent Witness Day rally Oct. 20 will be held at The University of Texas at Austin to raise awareness during Dating Violence Awareness Month about the prevalence of interpersonal violence issues in the college-age population.

The Theatre for Dialogue from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Belmont 328 is titled “What Would You Do?” and is sponsored by the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies and Voices Against Violence, a program of the Counseling and Mental Health Center. Free pizza and refreshments will be provided at the event.

The Dating Violence Awareness Month Rally and Silent Witness Day from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 20 on the West Mall will include a spoken word performer, speakers and stories. The event is sponsored by Voices Against Violence.

During the rally, 1,300 flowers will be distributed to students with attached stories of young women who died because of domestic violence in Texas in 2009. This commemoration, known as Silent Witness Day, will raise awareness about the prevalence of interpersonal violence issues in the college-age population, said Jane Bost, associate director of the Counseling and Mental Health Center.
