Computer Science Department Celebrates DigCS, a Groundbreaking Event With ArcAttack

Event: DigCS: the Bill and Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex and Dell Computer Science Hall groundbreaking celebration with a street fair, Rock Band 3 competition, free food and performance by ArcAttack, Austin’s giant singing Tesla coil band.

When: Friday, Oct. 29, 3-9 p.m.

  • 3-7:30 p.m. – Street fair on the East Mall with food, Rock Band 3 competitions, giveaways, activities and a video presentation of the new complex
  • 5:30-6 p.m. – Groundbreaking for the new complex with Marvin, the autonomous vehicle
  • 7:30-8 p.m. – Student video screening
  • 8-9 p.m. – ArcAttack show

Background: The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin, the only top 10 computer science department within 1,000 miles, is celebrating the groundbreaking of its new home, the Bill and Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex. When the three-part building is complete in December 2012, the department will be able to nearly double its capacity, enabling more robust research and education. The Dell Computer Science Hall is the north building of the complex.
