The Tower at The University of Texas at Austin will be lighted orange Wednesday, Oct. 27 in honor of the university’s Army ROTC Ranger Challenge Co-Ed Team, which placed first this past weekend in the 2010 5th Apache Brigade Competition.
The Texas Army ROTC competed in the two-day Ranger Challenge Competition that included nine other ROTC programs throughout Texas. The competition challenges cadets mentally and physically, enhances leadership, critical thinking and team cohesion, develops healthy competition among battalions and helps retain cadets. It includes a physical fitness test, 10-kilometer foot march in which cadets carry more than 40 pounds, a written exam, a first aid/obstacle course, a hand grenade assault course, day and night orienteering that spans more than 10 cross-country miles, and a rifle assembly and disassembly competition.
The Army ROTC team will go on to compete in an international competition in West Point.
