Event: The Fifth Annual Liberation-Based Healing Conference, co-sponsored by the School of Social Work, SafePlace and the Institute for Family Services in New Jersey, in conjunction with the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and numerous community agencies.

When: Noon to 5 p.m., Nov. 5 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Nov. 6.

Where: El Buen Samaritano, 7000 Woodhue Dr.

Background: Liberation-based healing is an emerging and transformational philosophy and practice for bridging community activism and therapeutic practice with applications to family and community violence, trauma, mental health, immigration, health disparities and child welfare services. This approach to healing builds on the idea that problems are only really solved in community.

The national conference seeks to bring together practitioners and therapists, community activists and organizers, educators and faith community leaders for dialogue and inquiry focused on a system of relational healing that embraces critical consciousness, empowerment and accountability.

Enrollment is closed, but media representatives are invited.
