Where: Department of Art and Art History, ART Building, Room 1.120
Background: International Print Center New York (IPCNY) is a nonprofit institution in Chelsea now celebrating its 10th anniversary season. Since IPCNY opened in 2000, Coffin has spearheaded the development of IPCNY’s exhibitions, programs and informational services, and she has overseen the organization of more than 50 print exhibitions presented in IPCNY’s Chelsea gallery. She has directed two major historic loan shows: “Hard Pressed: Six Hundred Years of Prints and Process” in 2000 and “Imagined Worlds: Willful Invention and the Printed Image 1470-2005” in 2005. Coffin has worked as a journalist in New York and remains active in many nonprofit cultural organizations there.
IPCNY promotes appreciation for the fine art print by fostering a climate for the enjoyment, examination and serious study of artists’ prints. The New Prints Program is the cornerstone of IPCNY’s innovative exhibition programming and brings contemporary prints to public attention in a series of four juried exhibitions in its Chelsea space each year. IPCNY encourages printing presses, publishers and individual printers from all over the world to send their submissions to the New Prints Program, and to date more than 1,000 artists and 200 presses have participated. Interspersed among these juried, contemporary shows IPCNY presents two curated or themed exhibitions each season. A touring program for regional museums was initiated in 2006, and The University of Texas at Austin’s Visual Arts Center will exhibit “New Prints 2010,” the 37th presentation of the New Prints Program, as part of the Department of Art and Art History and College of Fine Arts‘ new Printmaking Convergence program.
