Background: The opening reception for the Visual Arts Center’s spring season features five exhibitions: Amanda Ross-Ho “Untitled Nothing Factory,” Natasha Bowdoin “The Daisy Argument,” Olivia Moore and Richard Yanas “Rock Hard/Soft Rock,” Printmaking Convergence “New Prints 2010” and “Womanscape: Race, Gender and Sexuality in African Art” curated by Associate Professor in Art History Moyo Okedji.
“Untitled Nothing Factory” in the Vaulted Gallery kicks off Ross-Ho’s evolving, site-specific installation that will involve public collaboration and explore the boundaries of the white cube, the direct and indirect products of creative expression and the connectivity of the visual world.
“The Daisy Argument” in The Arcade gallery continues Bowdoin’s ongoing project that documents her transcription of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass,” using the language of those works to create a new context for their viewing and interpretation.
“Rock Hard/Soft Rock” in the Center Space gallery offers a compilation of works in a variety of media that engage in a lateral slide of associations tied together by a single word: rock.
“New Prints 2010” in the Mezzanine Gallery is co-presented by the department’s Printmaking Convergence program. It will display work by 43 emerging to established printmakers as part of the International Print Center New York’s New Prints program.
“Womanscape: Race, Gender and Sexuality in African Art” in the East Gallery is a group exhibition that examines issues of gender, sexuality and race through works in a multitude of media by numerous African artists and scholars.
