Event: The Texas Center for Education Policy (TCEP) will host a brown bag lunchtime discussion “Exit Strategies: How Low-Performing High Schools Respond to High School Exit Examinations.”

When: Wednesday, Nov. 2, noon-1:30 p.m.

Where: Cissy Parker McDaniel Dean’s Conference Room, Sánchez Building, The University of Texas at Austin.  Parking available in the Brazos Garage.

Background: Assistant Professor Jennifer Jellison Holme from the College of Education, Department of Educational Administration, will discuss how exit exams affect low-performing high schools. Her research focuses on the politics and implementation of educational policy, with a particular focus on the relationship between school reform, equity and diversity in schools. Holme is interested in understanding how structures of opportunity within metropolitan areas relate to schooling conditions and outcomes for students. Her current work focuses on school desegregation, high-stakes testing and school choice policy.

TCEP brings together researchers whose work has direct bearing on policy issues with larger stakeholder education communities statewide. The center provides expertise in the areas of high-stakes testing, assessment and accountability, college readiness, access and completion, English language learners, immigration and education, quality teaching and teacher preparation. TCEP is part of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin.
