Event: The Austin Forum on Science, Technology and Society and Texans for Stem Cell Research will host: “Stem Cell Therapy in the Treatment of Patients with Ischemic Heart Failure” presented by Emerson Perin, M.D. and Ph.D, of the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

Background: Emerson Perin, a world leader in adult stem cell research, will share his knowledge and experience about the confluence of stem cell science, emerging cell technologies, and their potential to positively affect society in the 21st century.
Perin is medical director of the Stem Cell Center at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston. He has provided innovative cardiovascular care for 20 years, focusing on minimally invasive interventional approaches to therapy. For more than 10 years, his major research interest has been the study of adult stem cells for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure and peripheral vascular disease. Perin was the first investigator in the United States to receive approval from the Food and Drug Administration to inject stem cells directly into the hearts of patients suffering from heart failure.
