Event: Nearly 600 students from Title I schools in the Austin Independent School District will be honored for their academic accomplishments during the 2010-2011 school year at the Neighborhood Longhorns Program Superstar Scholarship Banquet.
When: Wednesday, Nov. 2, 6 p.m.
Where: Frank Erwin Center, The University of Texas at Austin
Background: High-achieving students from 30 schools that participate in the Neighborhood Longhorns Program will each receive a $100 scholarship for their academic achievements last year.
The money is held in the student’s scholarship account at University Federal Credit Union until the student graduates from high school and attends an institution of higher learning. If the student attends The University of Texas at Austin, the Neighborhood Longhorns Program will match the amount they have earned.
The Neighborhood Longhorns Program is an incentive-based learning program that serves more than 5,000 economically disadvantaged students in grades 2-8 in the Austin Independent School District. It provides students with the resources and motivation needed to achieve academically.
