The Arts and Letters Award in Music honors outstanding artistic achievement and acknowledges the composer who has arrived at his or her own voice.

“The award recognizes Professor Welcher’s artistic integrity, something that he instills in his students regularly in their lessons and as a role model outside the studio,” said director for the Butler School of Music, Glenn Chandler.

Welcher has also received recognition from other distinguished institutions including the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the arts, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
