Background: Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), the Fulbright Pakistan Workshop is a benefit made available to Fulbright Foreign Students as part of its flagship Fulbright Program (http://www.fulbright.state.gov) and is designed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in cooperation with ECA. The Fulbright Pakistan Workshop is intended to address participants’ roles and responsibilities as Fulbrighters and enhance their skills for successful academic, personal and professional lives while in the United States.

The Fulbright Pakistan Workshop, held primarily at The University of Texas at Austin, will feature interactive workshops on topics such as handling culture shock and understanding U.S. academic culture and politics. Through these events, participating students will develop a better awareness of U.S. contemporary life and academic culture, and their leadership role as Fulbrighters. Highlights of the program include a visit and guided tour of the Texas State Capitol, various sessions facilitated by university faculty members and staffers, and a Lake Austin dinner cruise as part of the closing reception festivities.

Reporters are invited to attend the opening reception or networking dinner. For a local angle, reporters are also invited to interview Fulbright Foreign Students attending Austin colleges and universities. A Fulbright Program spokesperson will be available upon request to provide further background information.
