Barbara Mink, a clinical professor in The University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education, has been named director of the nationally top-rated Community College Leadership Program (CCLP).
The CCLP is a concentration in the Department of Educational Administration’s Higher Education Leadership graduate program. It has prepared and graduated more community college leaders than any other similar program in the nation.
“We are very fortunate to have someone with Dr. Mink’s level of higher education leadership experience assume directorship of the CCLP concentration,” said Manuel J. Justiz, dean of the College of Education. “Her administrative involvement with community colleges dates all the way back to the early ’70s when she was one of the founding administrators for Austin Community College. She has traveled the nation for years, studying and listening to our community college leaders, and she has an excellent grasp of the challenges and great opportunities that community colleges currently face.”
Mink is chair of the Austin Community College (ACC) District board of trustees and has served on the board since 2000. She has served two terms on the ACC Foundation’s board of directors as well. She also served as dean of the School of Organizational Development at Fielding Graduate University and was on Fielding’s board of trustees, where she was chair of the Board Committee on Diversity and Social Justice.
Additionally, Mink was president of the Texas Association of Community College Trustees and Administrators (TACCTA) and has served on the boards of Envision Central Texas, ARC of the Capital Area and the Free Minds Program. A 2008 graduate of Leadership Texas, Mink had the opportunity to spend a year studying educational, environmental and economic issues around Texas and later was chosen as a featured speaker at Leadership Texas classes.
She has taught at three community colleges, been a senior administrator at two community colleges and offered training and seminars at more than 50 community colleges, technical institutes and universities nationwide.
Mink obtained her doctorate in educational administration from Duke University.
The CCLP, which was launched in 1944, is the oldest doctoral program in the nation that focuses on the preparation of community college leaders and administrators. To date, it has graduated more than 600 students. The program includes the National Institute for Organizational Development, Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, the Center for Community College Student Engagement, and the Ford Foundation’s Community Colleges Bridges to Opportunity initiative.
