April 16 Tower Lighting Honors The Daily Texan

The University of Texas Tower will be lit April 16 in recognition of student newspaper The Daily Texan‘s outstanding achievements at the College Media Association’s annual convention in New York City. The Texan won the top award as the Best Newspaper at a four-year-school with more than 10,000 students. To be considered for the award, the newspaper submitted their 50-year anniversary coverage of the JFK assassination.

Now at #UT: To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the Daily Texan reproduced its front page that ran in a special issue the following day, Nov. 23, 1963. #JFK50
