Media Advisory: Cockrell School to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for Engineering Education and Research Center

The Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin will celebrate the groundbreaking of the Engineering Education and Research Center (EERC), a 430,000-square-foot facility that will serve as a meeting and learning space for more than 7,700 Texas Engineering students and 80 student organizations.

The Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin will celebrate the groundbreaking of the Engineering Education and Research Center (EERC), a 430,000-square-foot facility that will serve as a meeting and learning space for more than 7,700 Texas Engineering students and 80 student organizations. It will also be the new home for the school’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Set to open in 2017, the EERC will include student project centers, teaching and research labs, the Cockrell School’s Innovation Center, an engineering library and the school’s first auditorium.

Where: Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall Plaza, 301 E. Dean Keeton St.

Who: Event speakers include University of Texas System Chancellor William McRaven, University of Texas at Austin President Bill Powers, Cockrell School of Engineering Dean Sharon L. Wood and biomedical engineering senior and Student Engineering Council President Anuj Kudva. The ceremony will also feature project demonstrations by engineering students. Dean Sharon L. Wood will be available for a QandA with reporters after the ceremony.
