EVENT: The third annual 9/11 Heroes Run hosted by Texas Army ROTC at The University of Texas at Austin. The opening address will be delivered by Col. Leon Holland, a member of the Precursors, UT Austin’s first cohort of African American alumni. Holland is the first African American graduate from the Texas Army ROTC program.

BACKGROUND: The 9/11 Heroes Run 5k +1M fun run/walk welcomes runners and walkers of all levels and of all ages. Events take place all over the world on or near Sept. 11 and are organized by local community volunteers. This is an opportunity for community members to thank their local veterans and first responders in a fun environment.
The race benefits Texas Army ROTC and the Travis Manion Foundation, a nonprofit that directly supports military veterans, their families and the families of fallen service members. More than 300 runners are expected to attend this year, including current students, veterans and active duty military members in Austin.
Smokey the Cannon — a staple at UT Austin game days — will start off the race.
PRICING: 5K Individual Registration: $30; Family pack of four: $100; 1 Mile Fun Run / Walk: $20.
