Texas-sized Fashion Show Synthesizes Designs of 22 Students on the Runway

The annual University of Texas at Austin fashion show, the largest student fashion show in the country, will take place at the Frank Erwin Center at 7:15 p.m on April 19.

EVENT: Synthesis, the annual University of Texas at Austin fashion show, features designs from 22 textiles and apparel design seniors in a runway extravaganza that is the largest student fashion show in the country. The fashion show is produced by the University Fashion Group. More than 100 hand-crafted garments — bridal, evening and even game-day attire — will be shown before an audience of more than 5,000 people as well as broadcast on the Longhorn Network. Industry professionals Linda Asaf, Cheryl Bemis, Kim Coates, Leonardo D’Almagro, Kayla Farhang, Sergio Guadarrama, Patty Hoffpauir, Carissa Lynn Melendez, Lance Avery Morgan, Leslie Russell, Ashley Schwaegel, Leslie Smith, Liz Willis and Carmel Fenves will judge the event.

When: Wednesday, April 19, 5:30 p.m. (Student Exhibition curated by Luisa Gil Fandiño); 7:15 p.m. (Synthesis Fashion Show)

Where: Frank Erwin Center, 1701 Red River St.

Student Exhibition in the Lone Star Room, followed by the Runway Show in the Arena.

WHO MAY ATTEND: Attendance is free and open to the public.

Background: Synthesis, The UT Fashion Show, is free and open to the public and will include 120 original runway designs that showcase a range of student innovations such as gender-neutral design, digital prints, programmable lights and performance fabric. Presented by the University Co-operative Society and sponsored by the Austin American-Statesman, Frost Bank, JB Goodwin Realtors, Brides of Austin, Sew Much More and the School of Human Ecology Advisory Council. Synthesis prizes will be awarded in categories such as most innovative fashion collection, most marketable fashion collection, best technical collection, best evening gown, best bridal gown and best overall collection of 2017.
