Thursday, Sept. 24, was Jay Hartzell’s first full day as president of The University of Texas at Austin. During his first days in office, he spoke with Gov. Greg Abbott, enjoyed an outdoor meet-and-greet with faculty and staff members, and had lunch with students in front of Gregory Gym. UT’s 30th president, who earned a Ph.D. at Texas and has taught here for a quarter century, called the appointment “the honor of a lifetime.”
