Panel to Discuss Emergence of the Tea Party

Event: University of Texas at Austin professors will be joined by a journalist and political consultant to discuss the emergence of the Tea Party in American politics and the future of the powerful but controversial movement in Texas and the United States.

When: Tuesday, March 1, 7 p.m.

Where: Will C. Hogg Building, 1.120

Background: Associate Professor of Government Sean Theriault will moderate a panel discussion that looks at what the Tea Party movement and its supporters have achieved over the past two yeas and the role the party of Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann could play in the Congress and the 2012 elections.

Panelists include:

  • James, Henson, director of the Texas Politics Project at The University of Texas at Austin and lecturer in the Department of Government.
  • Robert Jensen, journalism professor
  • Jordan Berry, Republican campaign manager
  • Reeve Hamilton, Texas Tribune reporter
