Following a successful track record of 23 years with University Health Services (UHS) at The University of Texas at Austin, Jamie Shutter has been selected as UHS’ new director. She has served as interim director of UHS since September 2011.
“Jamie has demonstrated wonderful leadership in working with students and UHS staff. We look forward to her continued commitment to the health and well-being of students as well as increasing effectiveness and efficiency in UHS operations,” said Juan C. González, vice president for student affairs.
“While interim director, Jamie has tackled some very complex issues including implementing the new state meningitis legislation, which requires vaccination of first-time college students, transferring students and students who re-enroll after being absent a long semester. She constantly strives to improve health services for students and always maintains a focus on efficiency, quality and customer service. Jamie cares deeply about students and her staff. She is the right leader at the right time,” added Chris Brownson, associate vice president for student affairs.
In 2011 Shutter was honored with The University of Texas at Austin President’s Award for Outstanding Supervisor. She has also received the Texas Parents’ Staff Merit Award and The Eyes of Texas Excellence Award. Shutter currently serves on the University of Texas System Student Health Advisory Committee and is an active member in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and American College Health Association (ACHA).
“A lifelong passion for health and wellness set the direction for my college education and professional path. I have a deep personal and professional commitment to health and wellness. I am honored to accept this opportunity; it is a natural fit,” said Shutter.
Shutter received her bachelor and master of science in education degrees from Southern Illinois University.
UHS has provided services to the students at The University of Texas at Austin for 106 years. UHS is an accredited ambulatory health care facility that includes general medicine, women’s health, sports medicine, urgent care, allergy/immunizations clinics, and radiology and lab services.
