Tower Shines June 2 for President Powers
The UT Tower will have a burnt orange glow Tuesday, June 2 to mark the last day of Bill Powers’ nine-year presidency.
The UT Tower will have a burnt orange glow Tuesday, June 2 to mark the university’s transition in leadership. President Bill Powers will step down June 2 after nine years as the university’s top administrator.
During his tenure as president, Powers oversaw the historic Campaign for Texas, which successfully raised $3.12 billion, and saw the founding of both the School of Undergraduate Studies and the Dell Medical School, among other accomplishments.
“Thirty-seven years ago I fell in love with UT,” Powers says. “A lot went into that, but nothing more than our people. Our amazing students. Our unbelievably talented faculty. Our innovative and hard-working staff. Our astonishing alumni and friends. I know all too well what all of you have done for me. Thank you!”
