VIDEO: Garrison Hall’s Centennial

The home of UT’s History Department is 100 years old. Preservationist Kim Barker explains one of the Forty Acres most iconic buildings.

This year, the History Department marks two milestones: 2026 is both the centennial of Garrison Hall, its ornate Spanish-Mediterranean home, and, coincidentally, its first awarded Ph.D. On Sept. 17-19, the department will host a celebration commemorating the centennial of Garrison Hall to reconnect with alumni, highlight the department’s work, and raise funds to support the graduate program.

Watch below as preservation planner Kim Barker takes viewers on a tour of the iconic building, which was designed by architect Herbert M. Greene to reflect its Texas roots. More information about the event is available on the College of Liberal Arts website here.
