The McCombs Healthcare Initiative will host a one-day seminar, “Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Health Care,” sponsored by the Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship. Bringing together academic scholars and health care practitioners, the seminar will explore ways in which the two sectors can work together in tackling the issues and challenges they face.
Keynote speakers will be:
- Thomas D’Aunno, professor of health policy and management, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University
- Robert Kramer, M.D., CEO and founding partner, DecisionHealth Consultants
A morning panel will address “The Need for Creativity in Health Care.” Panelists include:
- David Laird, president and CEO, Heart Hospital of Austin
- Tim George, M.D., chief of service, Pediatric Neurosurgery of Central Texas, Dell Children’s Medical Center
- Bryan Grundhoefer, chief operating officer, chief financial officer, Well Med Medical Management
- Michael Stearns, M.D., president, e-MDs
An afternoon roundtable will bring academics and practitioners together to explore “Field ResearchIssues and Opportunities for Business and Academics.” Participants include:

- Michael Parchman, M.D., PBRN Initiative director and senior adviser for primary care, Center for Primary Care, Prevention and Clinical Partners, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
