This season, Hanukkah begins the night before Thanksgiving, creating an unusual intersection of the two holidays. 

University of Texas at Austin President Bill Powers and other higher education officials will meet today with congressional leaders to discuss federal sequestration’s damaging effect on university research and possible solutions as Congress negotiates spending levels for 2014. 

Longhorn Lights Out ask the university community to turn off lights, computers, and other equipment when leaving campus buildings for the weekend on Friday, Nov. 22. In support of Longhorn Lights Out, the Tower will not be lit from sunset Nov. 22 to dawn on Nov. 23.

The following is a statement from University of Texas at Austin President Bill Powers regarding today’s Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals hearing in the case of Fisher versus University of Texas at Austin.

AUSTIN, Texas President Bill Powers will welcome Steve Patterson, recently named men’s athletic director, to The University of Texas at Austin community during a news conference on Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.

The University of Texas at Austin will hire Steve Patterson as the new men’s athletic director, replacing DeLoss Dodds who is retiring after 32 years.

In recognition of the Moody Foundation’s historic endowment, The University of Texas and the Moody College of Communication will host a public reception and ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. on the Walter Cronkite Plaza.

American Indian elders will bless the new American Indians in Texas Learning Gallery at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30 during a ceremony that will include traditional garb, drum music and a procession of flags from the different nations represented.
